Are nasal polyps serious, and how are they treated?
Disease description:
The school has asked teachers to undergo a physical examination. A close friend of mine was found to have a nasal polyp. How serious are nasal polyps, and what is the treatment?
Nasal polyps are generally not particularly severe; drug therapy can suppress local inflammation and slow disease progression. This is relatively one of the milder nasal conditions, posing minimal threat to overall health. However, when polyps become large, immediate surgical intervention is required. Postoperatively, topical corticosteroid nasal sprays must be used for at least two months to prevent recurrence.
