Hepatitis C is primarily transmitted through the following routes:
1. Blood transfusion or blood product transfusion—this mode of transmission has been largely eliminated in practice.
2. Transmission via skin or mucosal injury, where the hepatitis C virus contaminates the damaged skin or mucosa—for example, during tattooing, eyebrow embroidery, ear piercing, or through shared personal items such as razors or toothbrushes.
3. Sexual contact, commonly occurring between spouses.
