What Causes Rectal Bleeding During the Second Trimester of Pregnancy?
Disease description:
I am 26 years old and currently over five months pregnant. This morning, I noticed blood in my stool during a bowel movement. I would like to know what causes rectal bleeding during the second trimester of pregnancy.
Rectal bleeding during the second trimester of pregnancy may result from constipation caused by improper diet. During pregnancy, intestinal motility naturally slows down, making constipation more common. Hard stools can lead to anal fissures, which in turn may cause rectal bleeding. Additionally, hemorrhoids—common during the second trimester—can also cause bleeding during defecation. As the fetus grows, it may exert pressure on the lower limbs, impairing venous return and promoting hemorrhoidal prolapse during bowel movements, potentially resulting in bright red blood in the stool.
