Pain at the Zusanli (ST36) acupoint may result from excessive strain—for example, prolonged walking, mountain climbing, or running. It may also be associated with gastrointestinal disorders; for instance, during gastric pain, a positive reaction point may appear at the Zusanli location. Additionally, such pain cannot be entirely ruled out as being related to deficiency syndromes, which may also elicit certain reactions at the Zusanli site.
