What precautions should be taken after rectal polypectomy?

After rectal polypectomy, fasting is required for three days; however, if the polyp is small, fasting for one day may suffice. Postoperatively, patients must be closely monitored for complications such as bleeding or bowel perforation. Once recovery permits resumption of oral intake, a liquid or semi-liquid diet is recommended for seven days. Additionally, patients should monitor their stools for signs of purulent discharge or hematochezia. If no other adverse symptoms occur, patients may gradually transition to a normal diet.
