The main complications following myomectomy include the following:
1. Intrauterine adhesions—These frequently occur at the surgical site where the uterine fibroid was removed.
2. Recurrence of uterine fibroids—Recurrence is primarily influenced by estrogen levels and is especially common among women of childbearing age.
3. Uterine perforation—The site of prior myomectomy is particularly susceptible to perforation during subsequent procedures such as induced abortion or dilation and curettage (D&C).
