Symptoms of Early-Stage HIV Infection
Disease description:
I work at a nightclub and have been drinking heavily lately. I’ve also had frequent sexual encounters recently. Over the past few days, I suddenly developed a fever and noticed itching in my genital area. I’m worried I might have contracted HIV, but I feel too embarrassed to go to the hospital for testing. Could you please tell me about the early symptoms of HIV infection?
Patients commonly experience symptoms such as rash, joint pain, and nausea. Some individuals—particularly those with milder initial presentations or better overall physical condition—may exhibit no clinical symptoms during the early stage. If unprotected sexual intercourse has occurred and there is suspicion of HIV exposure, the appropriate course of action is to seek medical care promptly at a designated healthcare facility for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) against HIV. Should significant immunosuppression develop, appropriate treatment must be initiated.
