What causes hepatitis C?
Disease description:
I’ve been feeling bloated over the past two days and have lost my appetite. I took some digestive aid tablets, but they haven’t helped much. Someone suggested this might be a symptom of hepatitis C—so I’d like to know: what causes hepatitis C?
This disease is caused by hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and is a form of hepatic inflammation. In the early stage, patients experience impaired digestive function; as the disease progresses, liver fibrosis and severe complications may develop. Additionally, some patients exhibit signs of extrahepatic manifestations. Infection can occur through the use of inadequately sterilized syringes or intravenous infusion equipment, or by sharing personal items—such as razors or toothbrushes—with individuals who inject drugs intravenously. Patients should take appropriate preventive measures.
