What precautions should be taken after rectal polypectomy?

After rectal polypectomy, fasting is required for three days; however, if the polyp is small, fasting for one day may suffice. Postoperatively, patients must be closely monitored for complications such as bleeding or bowel perforation. Once the patient’s condition permits oral intake, a liquid or semi-liquid diet is recommended for seven days. Additionally, stool should be observed for signs of purulent or bloody discharge. If no other adverse symptoms occur, the patient may gradually resume a normal diet.
