Wearing contact lenses may cause dry eye syndrome. Prolonged or improper use can lead to ocular dehydration and hypoxia, resulting in dry eye syndrome—or even corneal damage. During the fitting process for orthokeratology (ortho-k) lenses, a trial fitting is typically performed to assess whether the ortho-k lens is suitable. If symptoms of dryness worsen while wearing ortho-k lenses, lens wear should be temporarily discontinued and wearing time reduced.
