Is there a connection between gastric disorders and pharyngitis?
Disease description:
My gastric condition is quite severe, and I’ve recently developed pharyngitis. A friend suggested this might be related to my gastric disorder—could you please clarify whether there is any association between gastric disease and pharyngitis?
There may be an association: patients with gastric disorders or gastrointestinal dysfunction may experience excessive gastric acid secretion or gastroesophageal reflux—where gastric contents and acid flow backward through the esophagus, stimulating the pharynx via the upper esophageal sphincter—leading to a series of clinical symptoms, including pharyngeal congestion, swelling, sore throat, irritating cough, and hoarseness. Clinically, this condition is termed “reflux-induced pharyngitis.”
