Can pulmonary embolism recur after recovery?
Disease description:
I developed pulmonary embolism after childbirth and have improved significantly following active treatment. After recovery from pulmonary embolism, can it recur?
Pulmonary embolism (PE) may recur even after successful treatment. PE has a relatively high risk of recurrence; therefore, patients remain susceptible to developing another episode even after the initial condition has resolved. PE can be triggered by various underlying causes—such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the lower limbs, recent surgery, or autoimmune disorders. If the primary condition is not adequately treated or if daily preventive care is neglected, the risk of PE recurrence increases significantly.
