Can Yasmin be taken long-term?
Disease description:
I’ve been married for just one year. My mother-in-law is eager to have a grandchild, but I’m still young and would like to enjoy some quality time with my husband as a couple before starting a family—perhaps having a child in two years. I’ve been using Yasmine (ethinylestradiol/drospirenone) for contraception. I’d like to ask: Is it safe to take Yasmine long-term?
Hello, Yasmine is a short-term oral contraceptive that can be taken long-term. However, certain examinations must be performed prior to initiation:
- Ultrasound examination to rule out uterine fibroids;
- Breast examination to exclude breast lesions or benign breast hyperplasia;
- Clinical blood pressure measurement to rule out hypertension.
Yasmine is contraindicated in individuals with a predisposition to thrombosis. Prior to starting Yasmine, liver and renal function tests should also be conducted. It should only be taken under the guidance of a physician.
We hope the above information is helpful to you. Wishing you a happy and healthy life!
