Can ultrasound show nuchal cord (umbilical cord around the neck)?
Disease description:
I am currently 31 weeks pregnant. After today's hospital checkup, the doctor informed me that the fetus has umbilical cord around the neck. Can an ultrasound detect this condition?
During the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, ultrasound examination can clearly determine whether umbilical cord nuchal entanglement (cord around the neck) is present, as well as identify umbilical cord abdominal entanglement or entanglement around the fetal limbs. Umbilical cord nuchal entanglement during pregnancy is a common and generally normal phenomenon, which may result from factors such as excessive amniotic fluid, large fetal movements, or an unusually long umbilical cord.
