Dr. Wang Huiying
It is generally normal to experience bleeding after an intrauterine device (IUD) insertion. The IUD placement procedure involves inserting a contraceptive device into the uterus. Since the IUD is a foreign body, it may stimulate the uterine lining and trigger a non-bacterial inflammatory response, leading to slight bleeding. Some IUDs contain medication or active components, which may influence the degree of inflammation and thereby affect the amount of bleeding—either reducing or increasing it. In cases of heavy bleeding, patients should assess whether they are suitable candidates for IUD placement, and if necessary, the device should be removed.
