Redness and swelling of the male foreskin can be treated with topical disinfection using povidone-iodine solution and oral antibiotics. The most common cause of foreskin redness and swelling is balanoposthitis, an inflammatory infection that leads to swelling and redness. For treating balanoposthitis, it is generally recommended to first use povidone-iodine solution for topical disinfection, which effectively kills bacteria on the surface of the glans and foreskin. If the swelling and redness are severe, it is also advisable to take oral cephalosporin antibiotics or quinolone-containing antibiotics concurrently.
