When dampness is excessive, diuretic and dampness-resolving formulas such as Wu Ling San and Ba Zheng San can be used. Since external dampness tends to be more prevalent in summer, Huo Xiang Zheng Qi San can be employed for treatment. For patients with severe dampness, during hot weather, Agastache (Huo Xiang) and Eupatorium (Pei Lan) can be used as a tea substitute. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory, dampness is considered a yin pathogenic factor; through enhanced physical exercise, the body's yang energy can be invigorated and dampness eliminated. Additionally, if the above methods yield unsatisfactory results, pharmacological treatment must be pursued. TCM holds that the spleen is the source of phlegm-dampness production, and the occurrence of dampness ultimately stems from dysfunction of the spleen and stomach.
