How to care for uveitis associated with systemic lupus erythematosus
Disease description:
I have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and recently I've been experiencing eye discomfort. After a hospital examination, the doctor diagnosed me with uveitis. I would like to know how to care for uveitis associated with systemic lupus erythematosus.
Treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus accompanied by uveitis includes both local and systemic therapies. Local treatment mainly involves topical corticosteroids or intralesional injections, such as subcutaneous interferon injections at the lesion site. Systemic treatment includes antimalarial drugs, with chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine being commonly used. Immunosuppressants and corticosteroids are primarily indicated for patients with hemorrhagic lesions, renal involvement, central nervous system involvement, retinal vasculitis, or severe scleritis. For refractory systemic disease or retinal vascular lesions unresponsive to corticosteroids, agents such as cyclophosphamide should be considered.
