Disease description:

The neighbor's child has a pale yellow complexion and anemia. Does iron deficiency anemia in babies cause a yellowish face?

Dr. Cheng Yicheng
Iron deficiency anemia generally does not involve yellowing of the sclera. Elevated bilirubin levels can cause facial jaundice, accompanied by yellowing of the sclera. Patients with iron deficiency anemia may improve their complexion through blood transfusions or iron supplementation. However, once the condition is fully resolved, any yellowish skin patches will also disappear. Treatment for iron deficiency anemia mainly involves two aspects: first, iron supplementation; second, eliminating the underlying causes of iron deficiency.
