Symptoms of vitamin D deficiency in infants include irritability, restlessness, insomnia, sudden awakening and crying during sleep. Some affected infants may develop bracelet-like signs in hands and feet, such as saber shins, X-shaped legs, or O-shaped legs. In cases of vitamin D deficiency, abdominal distension may also occur, unrelated to the amount of food intake; when touching the abdominal wall muscles, they may feel flaccid and empty.
