Gingival inflammation usually resolves within several days to one week. Patients may experience gingival bleeding during tooth brushing or when stimulated by hard objects, and some may feel localized itching, swelling, discomfort in the gums, as well as bad breath. Oral fungal infections can also cause gum itching; in such cases, patients should seek treatment at an oral mucosal disease clinic. Common treatments include oral administration of nystatin tablets or rinsing with baking soda solution.
