Can Hashimoto's hyperthyroidism be cured completely?
Disease description:
Recently, I've been feeling unwell frequently, with severe neck pain and a sensation of blockage in the thyroid area. After examination, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis accompanied by hyperthyroidism. May I ask, can Hashimoto's hyperthyroidism be cured completely?
Hashimoto's hyperthyroidism is generally curable. During the course of the disease, transient hyperthyroidism may occur in the early stages, but this phase is relatively short. For a long time, patients may only show elevated antibody levels, while thyroid function remains unchanged. Hashimoto's hyperthyroidism is treated similarly to typical hyperthyroidism and can be managed with medication, although the treatment period tends to be longer. Most patients, once diagnosed with hypothyroidism, will require lifelong treatment with levothyroxine.
