Why does menstruation get delayed after ovulation induction?
Disease description:
At first, my menstrual cycle was irregular—coming twice a month or involving prolonged, continuous bleeding. Later, after an examination, I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), with elevated levels of luteinizing hormone. Ultrasound showed multiple small follicles developing simultaneously in both ovaries, but no dominant follicle. So why is my period delayed after ovulation induction?
After ovulation induction, there are many possible reasons for delayed menstruation. First, pregnancy is a possibility. Following ovulation induction treatment, many women release mature follicles, and if sexual intercourse occurs during this period, pregnancy may result. Once menstrual delay is noticed, it is important to promptly test for HCG to help confirm whether pregnancy has occurred. If the test result is negative or pregnancy is ruled out, the delayed menstruation may be related to medication. This is because ovulation-inducing drugs can stimulate the ovaries, causing some women to experience discomfort or even symptoms such as delayed menstruation.
