Disease description:

Sacroiliac arthritis is a subtype of osteoarthritis. Most patients with sacroiliac arthritis do not have an isolated sacroiliac condition, but rather develop it as a result of other underlying diseases. For example, can sacroiliac arthritis be cured?

Osteoarthritis involving the sacrum refers to osteoarthritis of the sacroiliac joint. Sacroiliac joint osteoarthritis secondary to ankylosing spondylitis often initially presents as secondary pain in the sacrococcygeal region. Once sacroiliac arthritis develops, treatment may include local physical therapy and heat application, along with appropriate strengthening exercises for the pelvic floor and gluteal muscles to enhance sacroiliac joint stability, which can be beneficial for management. Moreover, osteoarthritis of the sacroiliac joint is more difficult to treat than expected, because it is a relatively immovable joint. If arthritis occurs, it indicates joint instability, requiring appropriate functional exercises and physical therapy.
