Can people with cervical spondylosis do yoga?
Disease description:
I am a 26-year-old woman who has recently developed some cervical spine problems due to prolonged periods of looking down at electronic devices. I don't know what to do, as it's affecting my quality of life. Can I practice yoga if I have cervical spondylosis?
Cervical spondylosis can be managed with yoga practice. Many yoga postures are closely related to the muscles of the neck, back, and lower back. One principle in treating cervical spondylosis is strengthening the muscles around the neck and back to reduce factors such as cervical instability and intervertebral disc stress. Yoga serves as an excellent form of physical exercise, equivalent to functional training for the neck and back muscles, including movements like the "Little Swallow Flying," flat support, three-point support, and five-point support. The first two are suitable for beginners, while the latter two are more appropriate for advanced practitioners. With regular yoga practice, muscle strength increases and becomes more stable, helping to prevent relative bone displacement and reducing the load on intervertebral discs, thus achieving the desired therapeutic effect.
