The cervical canal does not typically lengthen. Normally, its length ranges between 25 to 40 millimeters before childbirth, which is considered the normal range. However, procedures such as LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) or conization may significantly shorten the cervix due to surgical removal of tissue. In some cases, previous cesarean sections may have stretched the uterus, allowing the cervical canal to reach up to 6–7 centimeters in length. If an ultrasound has confirmed a short cervix—specifically less than 25 millimeters—it's important to closely monitor the condition during pregnancy to prevent complications.
