Symptoms of anal prolapse include prolapse of a mass from the anus, mucus discharge, skin itching, and fecal incontinence. Initially, the condition presents as protrusion of an intrarectal mass during defecation, which spontaneously reduces after bowel movement. Over time, the prolapsed tissue gradually increases in size. After defecation, the mass must be manually pushed back into the anus, accompanied by a sensation of incomplete evacuation and rectal fullness. Eventually, the mass may protrude even during coughing, straining, or simply standing upright.
