How is earwax produced?
Disease description:
Lately, I've been feeling like there's an unusually large amount of earwax in my ears. How is earwax produced?
Earwax (cerumen) is secreted by the ceruminous glands in the skin of the ear canal. Cerumen is a commonly occurring substance that serves a protective function for the ear canal. It is normally distributed along the skin of the ear canal, and its secretion is known as cerumen, commonly referred to as earwax. Cerumen forms a protective layer within the ear canal and sometimes combines with external dust and shed epithelial cells to form a mixture.
