Bone hyperostosis and bone spurs are the same condition, just referred to by two different names. Bone hyperostosis commonly occurs in middle-aged and elderly individuals and is a frequent physiological or pathological change of the skeleton, primarily caused by prolonged weight-bearing and joint activity. Patients without obvious symptoms usually do not require treatment; however, if the condition compresses nerves or causes joint swelling and pain, surgical intervention may be necessary.
