Adnexitis is a disease in which the female reproductive tract is invaded by pathogens, leading to infection of the fallopian tubes and ovaries. During an acute episode of adnexitis, patients may experience lower abdominal pain and abnormal vaginal discharge. In the chronic phase, symptoms tend to recur repeatedly. If adnexitis occurs during menstruation, it may lead to increased menstrual flow and prolonged menstrual periods. It is recommended to treat with antibiotics under a doctor's guidance; commonly used medications include azithromycin and cephalosporins, which help eliminate pathogens such as bacteria, mycoplasma, and chlamydia. If antibiotic treatment proves ineffective, surgical interventions such as laparoscopic surgery or drainage procedures may be recommended based on the specific condition to remove the infectious foci and relieve symptoms.
