How is vulvovaginal candidiasis caused?
Disease description:
I previously had vulvovaginal candidiasis, which was treated and cured at the hospital. However, in the past few days, I've noticed symptoms such as reddish or yellowish vaginal discharge and vulvar itching. I'm not sure if the vulvovaginal candidiasis has recurred. What causes this condition?
Vulvovaginal candidiasis is primarily caused by infection with Candida species. Under normal circumstances, Candida organisms exist in the human vagina without causing disease. However, when immunity is reduced or due to prolonged use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, poor hygiene practices, disordered sexual activity, or other factors, Candida may invade tissues, trigger an inflammatory response, and lead to the development of vulvovaginal candidiasis.
