Can cervical spondylosis cause facial numbness?
Disease description:
My cervical spondylosis has flared up these past two days. This morning, I woke up feeling some numbness in my face. I would like to know whether cervical spondylosis can cause facial numbness.
Cervical spondylosis generally does not cause facial numbness. Facial muscles are usually innervated by the facial nerve, which is distributed in a different region from the nerves of the cervical spine. Patients with cervical spondylosis may often feel facial discomfort, such as warmth or cold sensations; these are typically caused by irritation of the sympathetic nerves. Facial numbness is usually due to conditions such as facial nerve paralysis or trigeminal nerve damage. Sympathetic nerve involvement and facial nerve paralysis are typically not associated with the same disease.
