What is the paraplegia index?
Disease description:
A friend's grandmother was recently hospitalized and is at risk of paralysis. I'm asking on behalf of my friend: what does "paralysis index" mean?
Paralysis index refers to the degree of paralysis after a patient has become paralyzed. Since each patient's level of paralysis varies, the extent of paralysis is assessed based on the degree of damage to the patient's sphincter function, motor ability, and sensation. The higher the paraplegia index, the more severe the paraplegia. The paraplegia index is represented by 0, 1, or 2: 0 indicates that the patient has not essentially lost basic functions; 1 indicates partial loss of function; and 2 indicates near-total loss of function and complete dependence on others for daily activities. A specific paraplegia index should be evaluated and determined by a qualified physician at a hospital.
