Disease description:

My friend was diagnosed with ureteral stones at the hospital. The doctor said it was only 6mm in the upper segment before lithotripsy. May I ask, can a 6mm stone in the upper ureter pass naturally?

Dr. Li Mingchuan
A 6mm upper ureteral stone can usually pass on its own. Increasing fluid intake and engaging in physical activity may help promote the passage of the stone through urine. If the stone fails to pass spontaneously, medications such as Jinqiancao Granules or Niaoshitong Pills can be taken orally under a doctor's guidance. If oral medication proves ineffective, medical procedures such as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy or ureteroscopic surgery at a hospital may be required to remove the stone.
