Some cases of pelvic effusion are caused by viral or bacterial infections of the endometrium that develop into chronic inflammation. The inflammatory secretions produced in such cases either cannot be discharged properly or are only partially expelled, leading to accumulation within the uterine cavity and resulting in pelvic effusion. In other cases, pelvic effusion may result from incomplete discharge of menstrual blood or poor uterine recovery after childbirth. To determine the exact cause of pelvic effusion, further examination and diagnosis are required.
