Hello, In Type II renal tubular acidosis (RTA), the urine may remain acidic during acidosis, as ammonium ion production is unaffected. This condition can reduce urinary losses of sodium, potassium, and calcium. Although acidosis may lead to bone demineralization and increased urinary calcium excretion, significant bone damage and nephrolithiasis are uncommon. However, because more ions reach the distal tubule—leading to increased potassium exchange—hypokalemia may still occur. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you a happy and healthy life!
