The removal of an intrauterine device (IUD) requires certain conditions, such as being outside the menstrual period and abstaining from sexual intercourse. Under normal circumstances, women who have not yet reached menopause can have the IUD removed 3 to 7 days after menstruation ends, provided they have not had sexual intercourse during this time. Women should avoid sexual activity for at least one week before IUD removal, because the procedure may cause some trauma to the uterus, and having sex beforehand could allow bacteria to enter the wound site. After IUD removal, it is important to maintain adequate sleep, avoid strenuous exercise, refrain from taking baths (especially sitz baths) and abstain from sexual intercourse for one month. Additionally, good hygiene of the external genital area should be maintained.
