Disease description:

I have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease, and a few days ago during a hospital checkup, the doctor mentioned that I also have aortic sclerosis. I would like to ask whether coronary heart disease and aortic sclerosis are the same condition?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Zhang Jianbin
Coronary heart disease and aortic sclerosis are generally not the same condition. Coronary artery disease refers to diseases of the coronary arteries that cause narrowing or blockage, leading to angina pectoris and myocardial infarction. Aortic sclerosis indicates an age-related change in the aorta, and its presence does not necessarily mean that a person has coronary heart disease. Furthermore, aortic sclerosis was previously commonly caused by arteritis, atherosclerosis, and increasing age.
