What causes strabismus in children?
Disease description:
My child's eyes appear to be misaligned when looking at people; a friend mentioned it might be strabismus. I would like to know what causes strabismus in children?
Childhood strabismus is mainly caused by congenital developmental abnormalities or acquired diseases and trauma. In most cases, strabismus occurs without any identifiable trigger and is usually due to congenital developmental abnormalities. Eye movement depends on six external muscles of the eye, which work together through coordinated movement and tension to maintain the eye in its normal position. Parents are advised to take their children to the hospital promptly for diagnosis and early correction.
