Ovulation can be induced in cases of premature ovarian failure. Premature ovarian failure refers to the early decline of ovarian function. When ovarian function declines, there may still be occasional ovulation, but the quality of the follicles is often poor, which can affect fertility and even lead to infertility. Women with premature ovarian failure who wish to become pregnant can take medications such as estrogen and progesterone to regulate their menstrual cycles and should undergo regular hormone testing. Oral ovulation-inducing drugs can be used to monitor ovulation; if follicular development is normal, intercourse can be timed accordingly.
