It is generally normal to experience increased menstrual flow after having an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted. In the first month following IUD placement, menstrual flow may increase due to the IUD being a foreign body. Its presence in the uterine cavity can stimulate the endometrium and increase intrauterine pressure, leading to heavier menstruation. This is a normal physiological phenomenon that does not require specific treatment and will typically resolve on its own with the next menstrual cycle.
