Can pancreatitis cause lower limb edema?
Disease description:
My good friend has pancreatitis, and recently he developed swelling in his lower limbs. Can pancreatitis cause lower limb edema?
Pancreatitis may cause lower limb edema. Pancreatitis is a condition caused by the self-digestion of the pancreas due to pancreatic enzymes such as trypsin. Lower limb edema in such cases mostly results from malnutrition due to hypoalbuminemia or uneven nutritional intake. However, diseases involving the kidneys and liver cannot be ruled out, nor can systemic inflammatory responses be excluded as potential causes.
