How is herpes viral oral ulcer caused?
Disease description:
The mouth ulcers suddenly spread and merged into larger areas, with some parts oozing fluid. There's also a mild fever at night—could this be caused by a viral infection? How does herpes virus lead to oral ulcers?
Herpetic oral ulcers are caused by infection with herpes simplex virus type 1. Infection with herpes simplex virus type 1 occurs without distinct seasonality and commonly affects the tongue, lips, labial mucosa, and adjacent perioral skin. Active treatment involves taking antiviral medications. Herpetic oral ulcers are contagious; patients are advised not to share eating utensils with family members until fully recovered to reduce the risk of transmission.
