Dr. Lin Yunfei
Knee muscle injuries and strains are different. A muscle strain is much more severe than a muscle injury, as it compromises the continuity and integrity of local tissues, leading to ruptured fiber rings and broken capillaries, which trigger the secretion of inflammatory cytokines and subsequently stimulate surrounding nerves. In addition to swelling and pain, a knee muscle strain can also result in joint instability, particularly in the knee and ankle joints, which frequently exhibit inversion, eversion, and anterior-posterior instability.
