Osteophyte formation and sclerosis refer to changes occurring in a patient's bones. The main manifestations include bone proliferation, degeneration and deterioration of soft tissues such as articular cartilage, intervertebral discs, and ligaments, the formation of bone spurs at joint margins, thickening of the periosteum, and other changes, leading to bone collapse followed by subchondral bone sclerosis. Treatment may involve reinforcing the liver and kidneys and strengthening tendons and bones, or may include medications such as glucosamine.
