Differences between costochondritis and pleuritis
Disease description:
I have some pain in the bones on both sides of my chest. I always thought it was costochondritis, but after going to the hospital for a checkup, the doctor said it was pleurisy. What is the difference between costochondritis and pleurisy?
The main difference between costochondritis and pleuritis lies in the location of the affected area and the different symptoms that occur after onset. Costochondritis primarily affects the costal cartilage, while pleuritis mainly involves the pleural cavity. With costochondritis, pain typically occurs only when pressure is applied to the affected area; in contrast, with pleuritis, pain arises during coughing or deep breathing.
