Elevated total bile acid levels in infants may be caused by pathological jaundice or cytomegalovirus infection. It could also result from poor liver function. Additionally, untreated congenital diseases in infants may lead to increased total bile acid levels. Therefore, there are various causes for elevated total bile acids. It is recommended that the underlying cause be identified promptly before initiating treatment.
