What are the causes of alopecia areata?
Disease description:
Today I noticed a classmate had a small patch of hair missing on their scalp. A friend mentioned this is alopecia areata. I'd like to know, what are the causes of alopecia areata?
Alopecia areata may be commonly associated with autoimmune diseases such as vitiligo, Sjögren's syndrome, and hyperthyroidism. Additionally, it could occur independently due to genetic factors; if there is a family history of alopecia areata, this condition may be inherited. Furthermore, long-term anxiety, sadness, or mental stress may also trigger this condition.
