What are the treatment methods for glomerulonephritis?
I have been experiencing lower back pain and discomfort recently. After visiting the hospital for an examination, I was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis. I would like to ask about this condition—how should it be treated?

Glomerulonephritis is a disease primarily characterized by inflammation of the glomeruli. Treatment methods mainly include general management, medication, surgical intervention, and other adjunctive therapies. The following are specific treatment approaches:
1. Immunosuppressive agents: For immune-mediated glomerulonephritis such as lupus nephritis and membranous nephropathy, immunosuppressive drugs including glucocorticoids, cyclophosphamide, and mycophenolate mofetil are used to reduce abnormal immune responses.
2. Diuretics: Used to manage edema and hypertension, including thiazide diuretics and loop diuretics.
3. Regarding general management, patients should have adequate rest, avoid strenuous physical activity, restrict fluid and sodium intake to prevent and treat fluid and sodium retention, and maintain electrolyte balance. In terms of diet, a high-quality low-protein, low-phosphorus diet should be provided to reduce the burden on the kidneys.
4. Kidney transplantation: For patients whose condition progresses to end-stage renal disease and is not effectively controlled with medication, kidney transplantation is an effective treatment for chronic renal failure.
If symptoms of kidney discomfort occur, prompt medical attention is advised.
