How is congenital funnel chest treated?
Disease description:
A friend's child was diagnosed with congenital pectus excavatum at birth. I would like to know how congenital pectus excavatum is treated?
Congenital pectus excavatum can be treated with different approaches depending on the severity of the condition. For mild deformities, a vacuum bell device may be considered to gradually correct the chest wall abnormality through negative pressure suction. However, for more severe cases, surgical intervention is required, typically involving either sternal elevation or sternal turnover procedures. Surgery is generally recommended before school age.
